# TikTok Ads app events

Send app conversions to TikTok through the Events API.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Status: outline.** This page is largely open. What is certain is what goes wrong when you do nothing, which is described in section 7.
{% endhint %}

## 1. What TikTok needs for app events

TikTok separates web events and app events in its Events API. An app event identifies the app rather than a page, and expects device level information and an identifier.

**Open:** record exactly which fields TikTok requires for a server-side app event, and which of them the GA4 App client can supply.

## 2. What you set up on the TikTok side

**Open:** confirm what has to exist in TikTok Ads Manager before app events are accepted, and where the corresponding id is found. Also confirm whether an app that is not registered on the TikTok side causes a rejection or silent discarding.

## 3. Tag configuration

| Field           | Value                                                    |
| --------------- | -------------------------------------------------------- |
| Tag type | TikTok Events API (Stape) |
| Trigger | `Client Name` equals the App client, plus the event name |
| Event source | app, not web |
| App information | **Open**                                                 |
| User data | The identifier agreed with the app developer |

## 4. Identifiers this platform accepts

**Open:** confirm which of IDFA, GAID, hashed email address and external id TikTok accepts on the app path.

## 5. How to test

* The event testing tool in TikTok Events Manager.
* The container's outgoing requests.

## 6. Known errors

**Open:** fill in from practice.

## 7. Limits and pitfalls

The pitfall here is not an error but a silent one. A web TikTok tag with a Custom Event trigger on the event name also fires for app traffic and then sends the event with source `web`, an empty page object and nothing but an IP address. TikTok answers with a 200, so nothing looks wrong, while the event is worthless.

Check this whenever a container that already sends TikTok events starts receiving app traffic.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.adpage.io/app-tracking/tiktok-ads-app-events.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
