# Verify ChatGPT Ads events in the Events stream

Check that conversion events from your site reach OpenAI Ads, using the Events stream

The Events stream in OpenAI Ads Manager shows the events OpenAI receives from your tracking setup. It works similar to GTM preview mode, but for OpenAI Ads. Use it to confirm that a test conversion arrives before you rely on the reported numbers.

{% hint style="info" %}
This page assumes the OpenAI tag is already set up in your server container. If not, start with [OpenAI Ads](https://docs.adpage.io/integrations-marketingtools/openai-ads).
{% endhint %}

### Before you start

* The OpenAI tag is configured in your server-side GTM (sGTM) container.
* You have access to OpenAI Ads Manager for the correct account.
* You can accept marketing cookies on the website. In the EU, measurement only runs for visitors who accept them. See [Tracking cookies and consent](https://docs.adpage.io/integrations-marketingtools/openai-ads/tracking-cookies-and-consent).

### Steps

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Turn off validate only in the sGTM template

Open your server container, go to **Tags**, and open the OpenAI tag. Turn **\[Validate Only]** off (set it to false), then publish the container.

{% hint style="warning" %}
While validate only is on, OpenAI checks each event but does not store it. The event will not appear in the Events stream and will not count as a conversion.
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Open the Events stream

In OpenAI Ads Manager, go to **Tools** and select **Events stream**.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
To start measuring, click the **\[Start polling]** button

<figure><img src="https://1274044937-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FA65KwL1NwewlJbtCXsXd%2Fuploads%2FbLEuAOuC6iaNNq1o5r4i%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=27d93b92-09c8-4960-8479-dd2fd8cace3d" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

#### Reproduce the action on your website

Open your website, accept marketing cookies, and perform the action you want to measure, for example adding a product to the cart or completing a test order.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Check that the event arrives

Return to the Events stream. The event should appear. Check that the:

* **event type** matches the action you performed
* **Pixel ID** is the one configured in your tag
* **event ID** is present

<figure><img src="https://1274044937-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FA65KwL1NwewlJbtCXsXd%2Fuploads%2FiVyZmR2snvy7iZgML6hd%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=49cd371c-92cf-4c10-aa40-e79d385f5dc8" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Check that the event is not counted twice

If you send the same conversion from both the browser pixel and the server, the two events must share the same event ID so OpenAI counts them once. See [ChatGPT Ads event ID deduplication](https://docs.adpage.io/integrations-marketingtools/openai-ads/chatgpt-ads-event-id-deduplication).
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Troubleshooting

If the event does not appear, check the following:

| Cause                     | What to check                                                                                                                                                                                                             |
| ------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Validate only is still on | The setting is off in the OpenAI tag and the sGTM container is published. |
| No marketing consent | Marketing cookies were accepted before the test. |
| Wrong credentials | The Pixel ID and API Key match the ones in Ads Manager. See [Where to find the OpenAI Pixel ID and API Key](https://docs.adpage.io/integrations-marketingtools/openai-ads/where-to-find-the-openai-pixel-id-and-api-key). |
| Invalid timestamp | Events older than 7 days, or more than 10 minutes in the future, are rejected. |

{% hint style="success" %}
Once the test event shows up in the Events stream, your conversion measurement is live.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.adpage.io/integrations-marketingtools/openai-ads/verify-chatgpt-ads-events-in-the-events-stream.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
